#67 -The Fraser Exel Cabin

From the book written in 1998....

This site was purchased by Leighton and Bunty Exel in the early 70's as a retirement plot. As time went on, Leighton realized he would not have enough time to build on this site and enjoyed the Exel beach cabin so much, he didn't feel the need to build.

Some time in the early 80's an election was looming and the N.D.P. was boosting a sure sweep and Leighton, not being much of an N.D.P. supporter and knowing all of the 'tactics', found out about their inheritance tax that would rob inheritors 30% of their booty. Before the election, he quickly drew up the two lots, lot #7 and #67, as an inheritance to his two sons and two daughters. All to save his children thousands of dollars in inheritance tax.  Thanks Dad.

In April of '89, Fraser Exel started building a log home on site #67. Being a 'weekend warrior', large building parties were organized and the main structure quickly took shape. Thanks to the help of a lot of good friends. Nine years later and with roughly twenty two tonnes of materials used in the structure, the Water Bay log home sits nestled in the trees over looking the beach and first gap. A view that guests associate with an Island Paradise and vow to return again and again.
