#56 - The Fransblow Cabin
From the book written in 1998....
Rock Dene Circa 1910-1920 (as far as we know) was built by the Johnson Family. Dennis Debeck arrived in 1923 and reports that the four Johnson brothers were already at Buccaneer Bay (both their parents had already passed away). The name Rock Dene means "Home on the Rock (in Gaelic').
We purchased the house that now stands in 1977 from Dr. Peter Padwick who built the cabin with another Doctor by the name of Hunt. They likely demolished the Johnson house prior to building the present structure (around 1960).
In the spring of 1977, my father-in-law, Don
Wright Sr. suggested that I speak to Peter
Padwick as it was rumored that he was
thinking of selling. But, as hardly anyone ever
listens to their father-in-law I was no
exception. I said that I would never buy that
ugly place on stilts stuck on a rock! After
considering it for a day though, I realized that
it might be my only chance. We bought it, of
course, and we think it is the nicest place on
earth. Peter, Ann, Heather, Andrew and Mike
enjoy the community and are grateful to be
at Buccaneer Bay.
