#5 - The O'Leary Cabin
Nothing written in the book in 1998....
Update 2023
Cabin #5 deserves a story that's been far too long in the making! Here it is, ghosts and all!
My earliest recollection of the O’Leary Cabin was when I was 5, and it was not yet our cabin but belonged to the Woods family who built the structure in the early 1930’s.. Mr and Mrs Wood had recently passed away and it was revealed to my Mom that the cabin would soon become available for purchase. (Ghost among us-more to come)
In 1963, Nadine and George decided that this old cabin with its strong bones and creative craftsmanship would make the perfect family gathering place for their growing clan. The family worked hard to keep the integrity of the cabin and eventually added their own touches. With that the Slate Blue shingled structure, with its Red tin roof, surrounded by a White picket fence became recognized as the O’Leary Cabin!
Fun story…ghosts among us!!
Over the years, Mrs. Wood, (the matriarch of the cabin and always will be) often popped in during a storm to warm her bones by the fire. When the wind howled, and the door flew open, our mom Nadine, would exclaim, “Oh Mrs Wood, won’t you please join us for a cup of Tea by the fire !” And so it is, on any given stormy night, that we welcome Mrs Wood in for a visit!
In 2020 the cabin was purchased by Terri and Brent Stuart and is now enjoyed by four generations of O’Leary’s (Emry’s and Stuart’s), the legacy lives on.
