#44 -The Brian Cornwall Cabin

From the book written in 1998....

Rumor has it that at one time a small simple shed was located at the back of site 44 to store winter food for the cows that grazed in the meadow. The site later became a road bed over which Tag Nygard exported logs to the beach for booming prior to towing to market during the years he and Joe Simson selectively logged the island.

In 1964 when the residents accepted the great opportunity Joe had offered us, Helena Moffatt purchased site #44. Although she vacationed at the Bay throughout the years, she decided not to build on Site 44 and on January 18, 1994, Brian, Lesley, Mark, Michelle, Kirsten, Honey, Cracker, Farley and Max purchased the site. Needless to say we were ecstatic and slowly set about the task of formulating a plan to construct our dream.

We consulted with Monty Wood who helped us immensely in achieving a plan we could all agree upon. With plans in hand, we began to order the materials from Rod Ryan, arranging the barge transportation from Don Mckenzie and coordinating the consolidation of the materials in Sechelt.

All was going smoothly at first: too smoothly. Mckenzie's crane became inoperable, reportedly broken for good. He located a new (used) crane in Alberta but the delivery of the crane was somewhat delayed. Peter Sherwood helped to minimize the delay. The barge arrived, was beached and we began to unload both Cornwall and Cowie materials. Jim Nygard moved the materials to the front of our respective sites and finally the job of transporting the building materials was complete. We thought we were finished! John Ellis and his crew constructed the cabin. More materials were delivered, and more assistance-was lent from the Buccaneer Bay Crew who were always

willing to lend a hand.  Warren and Tony constructed the sleeping shack and did further work

towards completing the main cabin. Our family will continue forever to work to completion.

Finally, in 1998, we are able to sit, happily, with a roof over our heads, quite comfortable and

with no completion date in sight. We are taking time to reflect and give thanks for having

this opportunity which was provided to us by the Simson family and our parents and

grandparents. We have a very special place for our generation and that of our children and

subsequent generations to enjoy.
