#43 -The David Ellis Cabin
From the book written in 1998....
This site has been known as the David and Alice Ellis site, but since 1993 it has been the Hathaway-Bartel site.
The David Ellis family spent its early years in what is known as the John Ellis cabin. In 1963, Joe Simson very kindly let us choose a site of our own and we selected the space between the Marion (now Allen) cottage and the Hailey cottage. When the Company was formed in 1964 that space was divided into two sites and we retained Site #43. The first structure we placed on that site was a woodshed!
In 1966 we built our cottage. The contractor was McCurrie Construction. The same contractor also built the Fering (now Bowyer-Smyth) cottage and the Padwick-Hunt (now Fransblow) cottage. Alice and I went to the Bay in May that year to discover that the brick-layer had only just arrived (several weeks late) thus, we were unable to use the chimney. It was a very cold year! We also discovered that the same brick-layer had removed a section of our prefabricated outhouse to use as a mixing board!
Our family grew up in this cottage and enjoyed fully the atmosphere of relaxation that characterizes Buccaneer Bay. We have been fortunate indeed to be able to spend as much time as we have at Buccaneer Bay: the best holiday setting anywhere.
Our kind, thoughtful, helpful and interesting neighbors(the Marians, Ken Allen, the Haileys and now the Cornwalls) have added immeasurably to our enjoyment of Buccaneer Bay. Would that all were as fortunate as we have been.
