From the book written in 1998....
Helena Crisp Smith/ joint ownership Christine Smith Rhodes, Beatrice Smith Moffatt, Robert Smith/ Robert Smith./Glen Geen, Donald MacDonald
1920's-1966
Hedley Marshall Smith first came to Buccaneer with Irene from site #21. Robert(Bob) joined Hedley for a visit in 1916. Helena Crisp Smith (mother of Chrissie, Hedley, Beatrice and Bob) had the family house built on site #36 in the early 1920s. Chrissie, Bea and Bob shared the house ownership for a period of time. Bea and Jimmy (Helena's mom and dad) lived in California and decided to give up their share and later Chrissie turned her part over to Bob.
In 1934 Bob married Jean Holland of site #33. Their daughter Marilyn joined the family in 1940. Over the next fifteen years Bob, Jean and Marilyn would move cottages for the middle two weeks of the summer. Chrissie came to the Smith house and Bob, Jean and Marilyn would move to the Holland house. Bob is remembered for his 'wood piles and boxes' organized into sizes and his painting system. Without fail, one side a year for four years then start again!
In the middle bedroom is located a board with the heights of the family members taken on August 1 each year for many years, a real ritual. The next owner made changes and the board is now hidden but we know it is there. Bob loved Buccaneer Bay and was part of the team who organized the purchase and formation of Buccaneer Bay Holdings Co. Ltd. in 1964. Jean died in 1965 and the house was sold in 1966 to Glen Geen. Marilyn and Milton moved to the Holland site#33.
