#20 -The Jane MacDonald Cabin

From Jane:  The history of our cabin is directly linked to two events: The arrival of my Maternal grandmother at Bbay as a young girl circa 1909 and the events following the fire of 1959. The fire is outlined in detail in the Barry Davidson story as well as the story of the Jim and Bobbie Macdonald cabin.  The arrival of my grandmother, affectionately known as Nana Smith,  is described in the notes from the Jim and Bobbie cabin as well.

After the dust settled after the fire, our family cabin (AKA the Big House) was rebuilt in 1960 along the lines of the look of the one lost in the fire. There was an empty space where the Marion's place had been and in 1964 with the creation of the BBH, the Marion's chose to move and rebuild in a new location up the beach. This left a new site available next to our family house and the decision was made to buy the share and create the Nana Smith house there. Needless to say, we are very grateful for this decision! It was a one bedroom place but she chose to sleep in the living room and she kept a close eye on the nocturnal comings and goings on the beach! Oh my! She had many wonderful stories to tell of the past and present goings on at her beloved Buccaneer Bay!

There have been changes over the years, but somehow the wonderful pioneer spirit of Nana Smith lives on.

Thanks, Nana!
