#19 - The Mathers Cabin
From the book written in 1998....
The cottage was built after World War II by Mrs. Bodwell for herself and her two children. Sometime later they moved east to live and rented the cottage to several families, including the McGavins and the Camerons. Ian Cameron will be remembered for his skill in catching large salmon in what became known as 'Cameron Bay'.
We rented next and after a few summers Murray Senior wrote to Mrs. Bodwell, asking if she would sell us the cottage. She agreed and Joe Simson set the price at $500 for the 'furnished' camp. Needless to say we were delighted to have a permanent home here at the Bay, after renting for several years.
Since we were now 'owners' we were able to make various improvements. Over the years we enclosed the two back verandas, extended the back with a new veranda and also added a bit to the floor. Except for leaks in the roof, and noisy mice, we are all happy in our summer home.
