#11-12 -The Gordon Davidson Cabin
From the book written in 1998....
Site# 11 was acquired in 1913 by Billy and Jean Davidson for the sum of $25.00. This princely sum included a tent and a rowboat. The story is told that the previous owners came down with typhoid the year before and wanted very much to leave.
The Davidsons and their two sons, Bill (b. 1917) and Gordon (b.1923) enjoyed Buccaneer every summer and Easter, missing only the war years. Bill and Boo (nee Forson) were married in 1939, and Bill went immediately overseas. Boo, who right away recognized the Bay as a good thing, was a frequent visitor to Buccaneer while Bill was away. In 1947, the front beach welcomed Muriel (nee Pim), Gordon's new wife. The three Davidson families shared Site # 11 until around 1950 when Bill and Boo bought the Luthweit's Site.
Muriel and Gordon took over responsibility of the Davidson Manor in 1950, though Jean continued to enjoy a summer visit until the 1960's. With their three sons, Sandy (b.1948), Mark (b. 1949), and Kim (b. 1954), they spent as much time as possible at the cabin.
Kim and Margot with their children Tllel and Jack, visit as often as their busy life permits. Sandy and Lesley are often anchored in Water Bay in their sailboat W Grebel.
Many years ago both Billy and Jean's mothers visited The Bay and that makes Tllel and Jack along with Mark's children Calm, Joseph and Elizabeth the fifth generation of Davidsons to be happy campers at Buccaneer Bay.
The Cabin was started in 1920, has undergone erratic renovations since then. The ground and the cabin floor have been slowly approaching each other for about as long as anybody can remember, denial works well for us. Some time in the late 1980s, the cabin became Sandy and Kim's, though we all wish Mur many more years of enjoyment.
Site# 12 -Unfortunately, most of the history of Site #12 is unknown to us. We do know that Ma and John Ashby were once the owners, but we don't know when they acquired the site or from whom. The Ashbys did not purchase their cabin when the company was formed in 1964. Betty Bennett and Gordon Davidson took advantage of this and bought it between them. In the summer of 1965, Sandy, Mark, Kim and Penne Davidson took the house down and the two families divided the lot.
